General Programs & Facilities

City of Ann Arbor Parks & Recreation, Cobblestone Farm, 2781 Packard. 794-6230. Manages 2,000 acres of parkland and 14 recreation facilities. Call to reserve pavilions or to hold special events in city parks; register online for classes, camps, and programs. Low-income city residents are eligible for discount passes to city pools, rinks, and classes. Customer Service Office open Mon., Tues., & Fri. 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Wed. & Thurs. 8 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sat. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. www.a2gov.org/parks

Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center, 2960 Washtenaw. 971-6355. This county-owned facility has a walk-run track, a double gym, an indoor pool, cardio and weight training equipment, personal trainers, group fitness classes, swim instruction, and more. Adults (ages 18-61) $6/day for residents, $8 for nonresidents; seniors (age 62 & over) and youths (ages 3-17) $4/day for residents, $5/day for nonresidents. Annual passes $200 for adults, $150 for seniors & youths, $460 for families (up to four members); nonresident rates higher. Thirty-day trial passes $30; summer passes $70. Rec & Ed (Ann Arbor Public Schools Department of Community Education and Recreation), 1515 S. Seventh (Pioneer High School). 994-2300. Organizes many sports camps, teams, classes, and adapted activities. Quarterly brochures list fees, times, and dates for classes. www.aareced.com S

U-M club sports. 763-3562. These clubs are required to have at least 50 percent student membership; nonstudents often can take part. Each club determines its membership rules and pricing. Sports include aikido, baseball, boxing, cycling, dance team, fencing, field hockey, figure skating, gymnastics, ice hockey, kayaking, lacrosse, martial arts, riflery, roller hockey, rowing, rugby, running, sailing, soccer, softball, synchronized swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, water polo, and water skiing. www.recsports.umich.edu/clubs

U-M facilities. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni may use facilities at the Central Campus Recreation Bldg. (CCRB), 401 Washtenaw (763-3084); the Intramural Sports Bldg. (IMSB), 606 E. Hoover (763-3562); and the North Campus Recreation Bldg. (NCRB), 2375 Hubbard (763-4560). Student fees are included in tuition charges. Memberships available for U-M faculty, staff, alumni, students, and retired U-M employees; nonstudents sponsored by a student, staff member, or alumnus; and spouses and kids (up to age 17) of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Membership fees vary, call for details. Early Bird rates until 3 p.m. fall & winter terms. Recreational sports members use their Mcard to gain access to facilities. U-M Outdoor Adventures, Elbel Field Bldg., 336 Hill. 764-3967. Outdoors skills classes, weekend and extended trips, and leadership development programs. Wide variety of outdoor gear and recreational equipment for short- and long-term rental such as boats, backpacks, tents, snowshoes, volleyball sets, tug of war ropes, coolers, and more. Wilderness medicine certification classes, trip planning resources, indoor rock climbing. All services and equipment available to the public. U-M Palmer Field, 401 Washtenaw (next to CCRB). 763-3084. Running track (approximately 1⁄4 mile) with grass infield, eight lighted asphalt tennis courts (open 7 a.m.-11 p.m.), two artificial grass tennis courts, an in-line skating lot, and four basketball hoops.

U-M Radrick Recreation Area, 1120 N. Dixboro Rd. 998-6766. Primarily used for the team-building Challenge Program but also rents space for retreats, picnics, reunions, conferences, meetings, and birthday parties. Call 936-0616 for rentals. The Challenge Program includes group problem-solving initiatives, ropes course, and a climbing tower. Open to people at all physical conditioning levels. Call 936-0603 to schedule.

U-Move Fitness, CCRB, room 3064. 764-1342. Classes for U-M students, faculty, staff, and the public. Discounts for age 60 & over. YMCA, 996-9622. Monthly memberships: family (up to two adults) $71.50, adult (ages 28-61) $44.50, senior (age 62 & over) $32, young adult (ages 18-27) $28, teen (ages 12-17) $10. Initiation fee $35-$100 (no initiation fee for ages 12-17). Yearly memberships and financial assistance available. Classes open to nonmembers; members receive discounts and priority enrollment.
