U-M Parking Services, 777 N. University. 764-8291. umpark@umich.edu, www.pts.umich.edu. University parking facilities have signs at the entrances indicating the permits required, enforcement hours, and whether visitor parking is permitted. The university has a few metered visitor spaces, at $1.10/hour. On Central Campus, a good place to search for short-term parking is the metered visitor lot next to the Thompson St. parking structure, near Madison. Between Central Campus and the Medical Campus, try the Palmer Dr. structure off Washtenaw ($1.10/hour). Parking at the MRide Park & Ride lots is free; see MRide under Buses, below.
Patients and visitors may park on the Medical Campus at Parking A (Taubman Center structure). Parking B (Cancer Center structure) and Parking C (Cardiovascular Center structure) are intended for patients and their families. Fees at both structures are $10/day for the public, $2/day for patients and their visitors with validation from a U-M medical clinic or the hospital. Patients at the U-M School of Dentistry and University Health Services may park in the Fletcher St. structure ($1.10/hour, $9/day, $2/day for Dentistry patients with validation from Dentistry clinic).
Unless otherwise posted, U-M staff lots and structures in the Central Campus area allow free public parking (except during special events) Mon.-Sat. after 6 p.m. and all day Sun. Exceptions are the Fletcher St., Palmer Dr., and Thayer St. structures, open to the public after 10 p.m. Mon.-Sat. and all day Sun., and the Coliseum lot on Hill St. at Division, open to the public Mon.-Fri. after 5 p.m. and all day Sat. & Sun. Some of the lots and structures on the Medical Campus are open to the public Mon.-Fri. after 5 p.m. and all day Sat. & Sun.
Under contract with the university, the city handles all appeals and payment for university parking citations (see City Parking, Parking Violations, above). The fine for parking without a permit in university parking areas is $20. Accessible parking space violations are $100.
