Blind Pig: Matt Jones & the Reconstruction

Local band led by Jones, a popular pop-folk singer-songwriter with whose latest CD, Half Poison, Half Pure, is a collection well-crafted, emotionally penetrating songs about dark times. Tonight’s show features both acoustic and electric performances. Opening acts are The Hounds Below, a Detroit big-beat rock quartet led by Von Bondies frontman Jason Stollsteimer that describes its sound as “Roy Orbison meets the Black Rebels Motorcycle Club,” and Graham Parsons & the The Go Rounds, (see review) a Kalamazoo psychedelic rock ’n’ roll band led by singer- songwriter Parsons. Blue Nile: Louis Johnson & Friends

Jazz standards and New Ethiopian jazz by this local pianist and saxophonist, who is joined by Detroit bassist Will Austin and other musicians TBA. [venue info]

Cavern Club: Killer Flamingos

Rock ’n’ roll covers and originals by this popular, veteran band from Dearborn. Also, a Halloween costume contest, with cash prizes. Cover, dancing. In the Cavern Club. [venue info]

Conor O'Neill's: The Kreelers

Traditional Irish songs of drinking and rebellion, accompanied on a wide array of instruments, by this Detroit-area duo former known as Bruno’s Boys. [venue info]

Crazy Wisdom Tea Room: Christopher Mark Jones

Soulful country and blues-inflected Americana by this Pittsburgh- based veteran singer-songwriter. He has a new CD, Suburban 2-Step. [venue info]

Guy Hollerin’s: Madcat Midnight Blues Journey

New local quartet led by 2 veteran virtuosos, nationally renowned harmonica wiz Peter Madcat Ruth and pedal steel guitarist Drew “Captain Midnight” Howard. With bassist Mark Schrock and drummer Michael Shimmin. Its repertoire includes obscure blues tunes, folk and jazz melodies, and original compositions. [venue info]

Local composer-pianist, the winner of the 2010 U-M New Music on the Block competition, whose music ranges in style from classical and jazz to Argentine tango and Persian piano music. [venue info]

Tap Room: The Shelter Dogs

Local self-styled “lounge-a-billy” trio that plays vintage swing, rockabilly, and blues. With upright bassist Todd Perkins, guitarist Pete Bullard, and drummer Tom Twiss. [venue info]
