Nightspots

Friday Jul 31, 2009

The Ark: Lucciana Costa

Pop-rock band led by this Ann Arbor native, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter who's celebrating the release of her debut CD Last Chance for a Pony. $12.50. [venue info]

The Blind Pig: Bull Halsey

Chelsea garage blues band. Opening acts are The Blue Rubys, a classy local almost-all-female country-rock quintet, and The Ivories, a Chicago alt-country-rock band. [venue info]

Club Above: Drivin' Sideways.

(6:15-8:30 p.m.) Veteran local band fueled by Pontiac Pete Ferguson's alternately soulful and ornery vocals. Their country-based repertoire still features lots of classic honky-tonk, but they also cover everyone from Chuck Berry and Johnny Burnette to the Beatles and James Brown. The band's guiding presence seems to be Elvis--including both large chunks of his repertoire and his attitude that any music he did suited him just because he did it. The band also includes guitarist George Bedard, bassist Chris Goerke, drummer Mark Newbound, and keyboardist Jim King. [venue info]

Conor O'Neill's: DJ Big Daddie

[venue info]

Crazy Wisdom Tea Room: Seven Bridges

Country-rock originals by this Detroit trio led by singer-songwriter Keith Howard and featuring vocalist Lisa Chambers and her husband, bassist Dave Chambers. [venue info]
