Roots-rock band led by Alvin, cofounder of the Blasters and later a member of the seminal L.A. punk band X. His songs are known for their seamless blend of blues, rockabilly, honky-tonk, and gospel strains, and for their vivid vernacular portraits of the inner lives and outer conditions of ordinary people. His current band is an all-star all-female ensemble featuring guitarists Cindy Cashdollar and Nina Gerber, vocalist Christy McWilson, violinists Laurie Lewis and Amy Farris, bassist (and former Ann Arborite) Sarah Brown, and drummer Lisa Pankratz. $20.
Bowling Green (OH) pop-rock sextet. Opening acts are Night Shall Eat These Girls and Boys, an Ypsilanti electro-pop trio, and another band TBA.
The Elbow Room Tiki Tuesday band plays surf music and various exotica. Also, performance by the belly dancer Aurora and magician Scarboni.

This local blues and R&B band led by singer-guitarist Thayrone, best known as the host of the nationally syndicated Bone Conduction Music Show, plays what Thayrone calls "way-strong mojo, ritualistic barroom blues healing." Every Wed.: "Jazz, Etc." Jam session with EMU student combos (9-10 p.m.) and various local jazz ensembles and other performers (10 p.m.-midnight). Every Thurs.: Electric Open Mike. Hosted by The Martindales, a local band led by singer-guitarist Brian Brickley that plays blues and rock covers and originals. All electric musicians invited.
