On the Tracks Singer-Songwriter Showcase.
Performances by area singer-songwriters, who also talk about how they came to write the songs they perform.
Feb. 6: Chris Buhalis and Jo Serrappere. Buhalis writes engaging, fresh-minded folk-country songs, often with an acerbic topical edge, and sings in a rich, warm voice. Serrapere is known for her spare, haunting ballads and blues and her sinewy, commanding vocals.
Mar. 6: Jason Dennie and Jen Sygit. Dennie is an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist who plays an eclectic brand of folk-based music in the tradition of John Fahey, Leo Kottke, and Michael Hedges, and Sygit is a Lansing singer-songwriter and guitarist known for her bluesy lyrics, down-home music, and sultry vocals.
Apr. 3: Potter’s Field and John Latini. Potter’s Field is the Americana roots duo of singer-songwriters Rochelle Clark of Chelsea and John Natiw of Canton, and Latini is a veteran local rock ’n’ roll singer-songwriter.
May 1: Bill Edwards and Whit Hill. Edwards is a local country singer-songwriter, 1989 winner of the Billboard Country Songwriting Contest, whose songs have been covered by the likes of Lee Roy Parnell and T. Graham Brown, and Hill, a multitalented former Ann Arborite who moved to Nashville a few years ago, writes richly imaginative neobeatnik country-folk originals that are often spiked with her offbeat sense of humor. Edwards and Hill cowrote “What’d I Do,” a song featured in the HBO series True Blood.
