This class is designed for beginners and low intermediate players who wish to improve their declarer and defensive play. The class will run with students shuffling, dealing and playing 7-9 hands per session. Hands will be analyzed after completion to review the bidding, play and defense. Instructor will guide declarer on each hand as to the best plan and strategy to succeed. No book needed. Students may either pay for all 10 weeks at the start or pay as they go using the drop-in fee. It is highly recommended that students have some type of previous bidding class or experience. For more details, contact instructor Ray Gentz or the Ann Arbor Senior Center. Every Mon. (except May 13 & 20), Apr. 8-June. 7. Yoga For Mamas is a hatha postnatal and prenatal yoga class honoring mothers and babies during the childbearing year. Practicing yoga during this time can help to relax the mind, strengthen the body, alleviate discomfort and support the growing bond between a mother and her baby. Gentle yoga poses combined with breath are taught to bring awareness to the changes in the body that occur during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and the postpartum period. Class is held in a warm, supportive space with an emphasis on celebrating the journey to mothering! Prenatal mamas and mamas and babies 12 months and younger are welcome. Class meets Mondays, June 10 - July 22 We will read and discuss “The Oath” by Jeffrey Toobin, who investigated the ideological battle between the conservative majority on the court and the Obama administration. Never before have so many fundamental issues come to the court in such a short time. With a 5-4 majority and aging justices, both sides realize they have little time to dramatically redefine rights that have evolved over the history of our country. Gerry Lapidus will lead the first discussion and volunteers will lead the remaining classes. Please read through page 17 for the first session. Other parts include bidding reviews, defense, and more. The class will run with lecture and discussion from the text for the first 90 minutes. Students will then play hands for the last 30 minutes. The text may be purchased online or ordered from your local bookstore. Students must register in advance and pre-pay or pay at the first class for all 10 weeks. Class meets Tuesdays, June 11 - July 23This group will do a close reading and discussion of “The Odyssey”, using the Robert Fagles translation. We will get to know Odysseus - that man of many ways - as a hero, master of disguise, teller of tales, skilled craftsman and husband and father. We will also watch several clips of films with Odyssean themes. A baby class that you can attend with your baby! This is an 8-week baby class covering everything from feeding, to changes in your relationship with your partner, to fun things to do with your new baby. The class is geared towards parents of 2-6 month old children who are looking for some further information on popular new-parent topics. The class is also meant to facilitate a “mom’s group” type setting to help new parents meet others for support and friendship. This 7-week yoga series is designed to reduce the emotional and physical stress and discomfort associated with chronic pain conditions. This is a gentle, slow moving class; appropriate for beginners and those interested in increasing vitality and immunity while developing self-healing practices. Seated mostly on the floor and utilizing bolsters and props, slow intrinsic movements promote healing and offer the opportunity to relax deeply and completely. Our small class size allows for individualized instruction in a warm and supportive environment. "Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do" is a FREE, ongoing, two-part series. Part 1 provides information on how to recognize and understand adolescent substance abuse. Part 2 provides information on what should and should not be done to help when a teen substance abuse problem is recognized, and concludes with a short talk by a young person in recovery. The series is presented by Dawn Farm and Growth Works therapists, and is co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the Livingston and Washtenaw Regional Coordinated School Health Program Advisory Team, and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Greenbrook Recovery Center. All workshops are free and open to all. The presentations are targeted primarily to parents and caretakers of teens, but are also inclusive of teens, family members, people who work with teens, students, and anyone interested in attending for any reason.
