Donald Schweim, a community gardener with 20+ years of gardening experience, will try his best to answer all of your organic gardening questions! Special emphasis will be on how to adapt gardening techniques to make them accessible! Interested gardeners will learn about companion planting, organic pest control, fertilizer and more! Participants can also suggest subjects that they are interested in learning more about. Come learn how to use our CNC machine to make a sign! No prior CNC experience needed, but having taken our CNC class will help. This class will not certify you for unsupervised use of the CNC machine.Bring a laptop with the free image editing software Inkscape installed. We’ll show you how to use Inkscape to design a sign that our CNC machine can run. After your design is finished we’ll generate tool paths for the sign in our copy of Vectric VCarve.When the class is over you will have a file that you can run on our CNC at a later point in time to create a sign. Lecture by Dr. Charles F. Gehrke, MD, FACP, FASAM. When all else has failed - what does work when confronted with a loved one's addiction? What does not work? What can others do to help? What does not help? What role does an individual play in supporting another person's recovery process? We will study cultural history and heritage of India through lectures and discussions. Indian civilization dates back five thousand years and the elements of its culture grew, flourished and suffered decay throughout this period. In these Thursday morning sessions, you will learn a practice somewhat similar to Chinese acupressure but which also draws on the wisdom of ancient yoga and Ayurveda philosophy. The old-fashioned flowers our great grandmothers loved to grow were colorful, fragrant, and hardy—and just as perfect for today’s gardens as those of yesteryear. You’ll discover some forgotten plants as well as rediscover some old favorites. Learn the history of flowers that would have been grown in southeastern Michigan over a hundred years ago and the modern equivalents for today’s gardens. You’ll find out everything you need to know to grow these plants in your own gardens, plus some fun facts besides, such as hidden Victorian flower meanings and medicinal and everyday uses.
