Irish-American singer-songwriter from Detroit is known for her bell-like soprano--an instrument that has been described as “rich, flexible, soaring, and haunting”--and her grittily realistic, bluesy original songs. Apr. 16: Mark Randisi & the Motor City Horns. a Detroit jazz crooner who performs Sinatra tunes, singing with a timbre and phrasing remarkably similar to that of Sinatra himself, Randisi is accompanied by this veteran horn trio.This show is held at the Washington Street Education Center (500 Washington), and tickets are not required. Lecture by Raymond Dalton, MA; Dawn Farm therapist. There is an alarmingly high prevalence of suicide among people with addiction and people in early recovery. This program will raise awareness of the signs of suicidal thinking and describe ways to offer support and obtain help for people who may be contemplating suicide. Participants will learn how to recognize suicidal thinking, reach out and offer support to others contemplating suicide, obtain help when suicidal thoughts are present, and access local and national suicide prevention and intervention resources. See review. Monthly open mike storytelling competition sponsored by The Moth, the NYC-based nonprofit storytelling organization that also produces a weekly public radio show. Each month 10 storytellers are selected at random from among those who sign up to tell a 3-5 minute story on the monthly theme. The 3 judges are recruited from the audience. Ariel Toews-Ricotta directs the choir in “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” John Rutter’s “Peronent Hodie,” and Vince Guaraldi’s “Christmas Time Is Here,” and an arrangement of “O Magnum Mysterium.” Christopher Heidenreich conducts the band in the From Russia with Love theme, selections from The Nutcracker, “Midnight Sleighride” from Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé Suite, Alfred Reed’s Russian Christmas Music, and Bach’s arrangement of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Organ with organist James Wagner. The program concludes with a joint band and choir performance of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah.
