Apr. 27 (11 a.m.): �Live! Birds of Prey.� Howell Nature Center representatives present a program on birds of prey that includes displays of live hawks, owls, falcons, and vultures. $5 (kids, $3).

May 12 (1 p.m.): �Mother�s Day Wildflower Walk.� A hike to look for spring wildflowers.

May 18 (7:30 a.m.): �Bird Hike.� A hike to look for birds in a variety of habitats. Bring binoculars and a field guide.

June 22 (11 a.m.): �No Child Left Inside: Amazing Amphibians.� Discussion and display of live specimens of frogs, toads, and salamanders, followed by a hike to a pond to look for amphibians in their natural habitat. Geared toward young audiences; parents welcome. $3 per child.

Weekend Bird Walk: Washtenaw Audubon Society.

Washtenaw Audubon is going to experiment with weekend walks on 5/6, 5/19, and 5/26. These will be like our leaderless walks on Thursday mornings at Nichols Arboretum during spring and fall migration, but these dates will be especially for people who cannot make it during the week. These events are the birding equivalent of pick-up basketball or soccer--people show up and pursue their common interest with whoever else is on hand.

Volunteer Stewardship Workday: Ann Arbor Natural Area Preservation Division.

May 5, 12, & 19. All invited to help maintain the natural areas in various city parks. Also, city staffers lead a short nature walk at the end of each workday. Minors must be accompanied by an adult or obtain a release form in advance. May 5: Greenview Nature Area (9 a.m.-noon, across from Barnard Rd. on Greenview Rd. off Scio Church Rd. west of S. Seventh St.) to remove invasive shrubs and spread woodchips on the trails. May 12: Miller Nature Area (9 a.m.-noon, meet at the entrance near Westwood and Grace north off Dexter) to remove garlic mustard, dame�s rocket, and other invasive plants. May 18-20. 200 greyhound lovers and their dogs are expected to attend this festival that includes sales, auctions, and talks on greyhound topics. The festival kicks off May 18 with early sales and games (5 p.m.) and a �Hounds and Hospitality� social (7 p.m.). On May 20, a dog walk (7 a.m.) precedes a blessing of the hounds (8:30 a.m.) and brunch with a talk by a speaker TBA (9 a.m., $20).

Larry Cat in Space (12:30 p.m. Sat.) is a playful cartoon about an inquisitive cat that learns more than it wanted to know about life in space when it stows away on a shuttle to be with its owner, a female scientist on her way to the Moon. Expanded View (Sat. 2:30 p.m.) is an exploration of deep space objects through the eyes of the Hubble, Spitzer, and Chandra space telescopes, each of which operates in different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. �The King and I�: Young People�s Theater.

May 18-20. Lisa Merte directs young local actors in Rodgers and Hammerstein's popular musical about a 19th-century American schoolteacher who travels to Asia to be a tutor in the court of the king of Siam. She finds the autocratic but well-intentioned monarch caught between his culture's ancient traditions and his desire to rule a "modern" country. The show's many well-known songs include "Getting to Know You," "Hello, Young Lovers" and "Shall We Dance?"

The former frontman of Men at Work, this Australian singer-songwriter recently released American Sunshine, a collection of tuneful meditations on life, love, maturity, and perserverence. After burying only 48, the sisters run out of money and decide to whip up a talent show to raise cash and finish the job.
