Apr. 3, 17, & 24. All invited to help city parks natural area preservation staff maintain the natural areas in various city parks. Also, city staffers lead a short nature walk at the end of each workday. Minors must be accompanied by an adult or obtain a release form in advance. Apr. 3: a trip to Leslie Woods (meet at the park entrance at the north end of Upland Dr. off Plymouth Rd.) to help remove invasive plants and identify native springtime plants. Exhibit: The Ghost Army: University of Michigan Library.

The Ghost Army is here! In June of 1944, an exceptional U.S. Army unit went into action in Normandy. Its weapons included hundreds of inflatable tanks and a one-of-a-kind collection of sound effects records, and it carried out its battlefield mission without firing a shot. The unit was officially called the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, but it was known to its men as The Ghost Army.

Members of The Ghost Army adhered to a decades-long gag order; many never told their families about their extraordinary military service. Sixty-five years after this top-secret group went into action, the University of Michigan�s Hatcher Library will unveil the first public exhibit of this captivating group of materials documenting The Ghost Army.

National Youth Service Day at Beckwith Conservancy: Legacy Land Conservancy.

To celebrate National Youth Service Day, Legacy Land Conservancy will hold a stewardship workday at the Beckwith Conservancy Nature Preserve of Stockbridge on Saturday April 24 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Volunteers will assist with cleaning up the Stockbridge nature preserve, removing invasive species and readying the trails for the spring and summer months. No prior experience is necessary - all are welcomed to participate. Volunteers should come dressed for the weather.

The Beckwith Conservancy is located in the Village of Stockbridge. Visitors should park along the north side of M-106, just east of Maple Street at the east end of the woods. Volunteers should gather by the sign up by the road.

Carla Milarch directs this extremely popular production of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken�s campy musical black comedy about a carnivorous plant that grows to ferocious proportions. A nerdy store clerk adopts an unusual plant (and fondly names it �Audrey� after the object of his unrequited affections), which initially seems to bring him good fortune. But as the plant thrives, it grows more and more bloodthirsty, driving its owner to murder. Inspired by a low-budget Roger Corman 1960 comedy-horror flick, the show was an off-Broadway hit in the early 1980s and became a musical film in 1986.
