Ann Arbor Open at Mack school

Polls and pigeons at Mack

November's I Spy update

posted 12/29/2008

“My ‘educated’ guess [for November’s I Spy] is the Ann Arbor Open at Mack School, 920 Miller Road,” wrote Alice Ralph, correctly identifying it as “one of many school buildings used for polling places.” David Shoup agreed: “This is not my polling place, but we live right across the street and our kids go to school there.” Holly Eliot, who also lives across the street, recalled when she herself was a student at Mack: “My sixth-grade classroom was behind the sundial at the top of the building. That classroom had no windows . . . but had a [slanted] skylight [that] pigeons would land on . . . and slide down, which was amusing.” Pigeons would also coo outside a ventilator hood on the side of the building. “Our itinerant French teacher accused us of making the noises, declaring us ‘the worst-behaved class in Ann Arbor,’” Eliot wrote.

Ten entries were received in November, including one from Ted Kennedy (of Ann Arbor) and two from the Keller household—Rick and Sharilyn. Rick Keller won our random drawing; he will receive a copy of A History of Ann Arbor, by Jonathan L. Marwil    (end of article)
