Kappa Koney Closes

With an update on staffers' new jobs

by Sally Mitani

posted 1/26/2012

Kappa Koney, tucked into a tiny plaza on the corner of Maple and West Liberty, closed in November. "It was good food," says Jon Hannawa, working behind the counter at Buster's convenience store next door. "I ate there sometimes, but not all the time." Then he stops himself and says: "That was the problem, I guess. Not everyone ate there all the time."

Hannawa--whose aunt is married to Kappa owner Sam Deddeh's brother--reports that both Kappa employees have landed new jobs. "You remember the cook, Ezra? He's working out somewhere near the airport. And the waitress? She was Sam's daughter. She's working near here at ... what is it? A pet thing?" "It's like dog day care," a customer at the cash register supplied, though neither of them could remember the name of the business. (It's Breed Above, in the former Fresh Seasons market across the street.)    (end of article)
