Half of the lights on the tenth floor of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital are turned off, and there is an unnatural calm amidst the smell of fresh paint, curved wooden paneling, and newly tiled floors and walls. There is no hum of a Coke machine in the guest waiting area, no nurses sitting at the nurses’ station, no hopeful or tearstained families whispering in the
Government, business, environment, the U-M, and more.
